I have been going to Arizona State University for one semester so far, and this video covers how I feel about my first semester at ASU online.
Arizona State University Online Review
If you are looking at going to ASU online then this article will have some really helpful tips. Today we hear from Joe, who is going to share a few things about the application process, what he experienced as a student, what degree he is getting and what he plans to do after he get’s his degree.
If you’re nervous about the application process, it’s really not that hard and it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The hardest part of applying to ASU online is usually getting the transcripts and all the materials together to deliver to the admissions office. After everything gets received by ASU it takes about three weeks to finally hear if you get accepted by the school. Once you are accepted you get contacted by 3 people.
You’ll get contacted by you financial advisor, your academic advisor and then you even get contacted by a success coach. All three of these are pretty self explanatory but it’s pretty cool that ASU cares that much to send all three of these people your way immediately.
“This is a cool feature of ASU. It really helps you with any anxiety or jitter you might have before starting your first classes.”
All three of these people really help you understand what the online environment is going to be like and they want to make sure that you will be successful in their classes. The success coach can help you a lot with organization and really maximizing your time so make sure to take advantage of that.
What he experienced
His first two classes were in PUP 190 and PUP 200 which were both urban planning classes. In the PUP 190 class he learned about sustainable cities and it talks about the carbon footprint and how to change yourself into a more sustainable person. Overall it was pretty fun to learn and it was slightly more challenging than the PUP 200 but the one caveat is that sometimes they’ll assign you a book and you really don’t need it. You might want to save yourself the costs.
The PUP 200 course is about cities and cinema which is the study of movies to learn about other cities around the world so you can see who they are built and how people live. One of the movies they watched was Slumdog Millionaire and the other one was the Truman show.
“This was a fun class because you basically watch movies”
He goes on to explain that these classes were both really cool and he enjoyed taking them both. He did well in each class as well.
“I ended up getting an A- in PUP 190 and an A in PUP 200”
Degree and career path
Joe is going for his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geography so he can get his teaching certification in the state of Texas so he can be a history teacher and a football coach once he graduates. He will be taking geography in North America as well as technology and geography as his next classes.
Just know that there is nothing to be scared of with taking online classes at ASU they offer tons of support and the classes are awesome!
