Follow me around and see what a typical day of online school looks like for me. I like to take shorter online college classes and I usually work from my bedroom but watch the video to learn more.
A day in the life of an online college student
I don’t like going to school on campus. I went to a university, I lived in a dorm and I really didn’t like it and I really prefer online school much more. So here’s a day in the life of an online college student.
Wake up and get started
So I like to wake up around 8am and shower so I can get my day started. I like to get up early and have a shower and get dressed even though I don’t have to because it helps me feel motivated and get ready for the day. And if you’re anything like me, and you stay in your pajamas then you end up laying in bed the whole day working in your pajamas and after a while that gets tiresome. So now I make sure to wake up early, take some time to myself, then eat some breakfast before I do anything.
Time savings and focus
As a self proclaimed master of online college I like to take shorter classes. My biggest issue with on-campus classes is that they are too long and I can’t stay focused for that whole time. So I take a short 8 week course to break up my workload.
Workstation tips
I do not suggest working on your bed. I suggest you do your work at a desk and proper work area. And if you must work on your bed because you have nowhere else to work I suggest sitting up and not laying down in bed.
Weekly calendar
For my particular school I login into a portal called campus where my teachers upload a class schedule with assignments etc. When you finish your assignments they get crossed off so it’s really easy to keep track of your progress. I recommend looking at your calendar first thing every day.
Prioritizing your homework
I used to just let everything pile up and then cram it all into one day and work like 9 hours straight but that wasn’t sustainable so now on monday’s I see all off my assignments for the week laid out. And I try to get as much as I can done on monday so that I can have a more relaxing week. I’ll still have assignments due throughout the week but If I can get most of it done at the beginning of the week it’s easier to manage.
How long it takes to complete assignments
Just to give you an idea of the workload, for just one of the classes I’m taking I’ve spent the last 45 minutes to an hour working. I’ve been able to get Monday and Tuesday work done and now I’m about to start on Wednesdays. But I am really good at school and this class is an english class which I really like so it’s a bit easier for me so I just wanted to give you a quick timestamp on the amount of work I’m doing. But it’s going to be different for everyone.
Taking breaks and living life
So I’ve been working for a while now and I need a break and what I really wanted to outline in this video is that I have the freedom to do whatever I want. I finished my work for the next two days and I can take the next two days off if I want to.
The freedom to do what you want
But the point is that when you take online classes you have the freedom to create your own schedule and it’s pretty awesome. So just to recap the day in the life of an online college student. I woke up early, had breakfast, cleaned my room, did homework for about two hours, then hung out with my boyfriend, then came home and took a nap. And I’ll just be editing videos and hanging out for the rest of the night!
