Grand Canyon University Online Structure
Grand Canyon University’s online courses are 7 week long programs. So each class is 7 weeks long. A full undergraduate degree program can be completed in 4 years, just like traditional degree programs. Classes are very accelerated, and can be taken one after the other. If you do a full schedule of classes all year, you only get 2 weeks off around Christmas. The work load is not easy, but is manageable as long as students stay on top of their work. In the 7-week courses, there are several different assignments you will have to complete. Assignments prevalent in almost all online courses include: discussion questions, reading assignments, writing assignments, and quizzes.
Grand Canyon University Online Course Breakdown
Starting on the first day of class, you can see all of your assignments from week 1, all the way through week 7. So, the program is transparent, and there are no surprises. If you take it 1 day at a time, and don’t wait to do all of your assignments at the end of the course, you can stay ahead of the assignments. Class weeks begin on Monday, and end on Sunday, so you have the entire week and weekend to complete assignments. Each week, you have to post in the discussion forum at least 10 times. You must answer 2 discussion questions, and complete 8 participation posts. Usually weekly reading assignments are 1 or 2 chapters of your text book. Almost all books can be found and used completely online. It is recommended to take the quiz shortly after finishing your reading assignments while the information is fresh.

So, in order to be successful as an online student at GCU, it is important to stay on top of your schedule. When you start a new class, look through the complete class schedule, and get a feel for the assignments that you’ll have to complete. Be sure to do those assignments in the weeks they are assigned, so that your work doesn’t stack up and become too much in the later weeks of the course. Do the reading on time, and take the quizzes while the material is still fresh in your brain. Take your time reading through the questions, and answer them carefully. If you don’t have your schedule completely figured out yet, don’t worry. In your first online class at Grand Canyon University, you will be assigned to break down your day, to help you organize your day and stay ahead of your school work.
