Northwest Florida Schools Receiving Grants For Trade Schools
PENSACOLA, Fla. The Santa Rosa County School District and Northwest Florida State College are receiving state grants to support vocational training programs.
Florida’s Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant Program provides funding for the creation or expansion of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.
Governor Ron DeSantis and Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran announced Wednesday that 15 school districts, seven colleges, one university, and one private institution would receive funding.
The only recipients in the panhandle are the Bay and Santa Rosa County School Districts and Northwest Florida State College.
The Santa Rosa School District will use the money for programs that prepare students for skilled trades, including heating and air conditioning services, pipefitting, and plumbing.
At Houedu.com it’s been our mission to help prospective students understand alternative education options. As more students become aware of their options more states will give funding towards their schools for these skilled trade programs.
It may come as no surprise but much of America’s graduates from traditional 4-year colleges have massive debt and very little to show for it. It seems the millennial crowed has been struck the hardest with the following generations taking note.
We’re happy to see continued progress towards legitimizing the trades and shedding the past negative reputation that trades had.
The funding will support Northwest Florida State College’s machinist, plumbing, and carpentry programs.
In Bay County, the grant will help pay for costs of school welding programs.
Labor leaders are signaling a decline of trained workers in the skilled trades, creating shortages in areas like auto repair, home and business construction, and HVAC installation. Some schools are trying to help meet the demand by preparing students to move into those careers.
