With rising tuition cost an overwhelming amounts of student debt, it raises the question.
In this video, CNBC explores the differences between traditional college and trade school. What are the benefits of both and how do those benefits apply to the real world. It seems that the lower cost of trade school is compelling to many potential students.
And many trade school graduates make more than traditional college graduates at the start. However, over time a bachelors degree tends to pay off in the long run. When people start reaching managerial positions a bachelor’s degree is often required.
But here’s where the debate is. Is it worth it to take on more debt to get a bachelor’s degree or will you stack more money over time with a trade school degree? The answer can be found in another article we posted here. Doctor vs plumber who’s wealthier?
Is attending a four-year university really worth it or is attending a vocational school just as promising for your career?
We came to an automotive technician trade school here in New York to talk to their students.
Vocational school can take as little as four months for beauty school or two years to be a dental hygienist.
“we’re being tested on all levels not only theory put the hands-on this is great if you’re a visual learner and joining the workforce you already have the skills in your tool belt the con about a trade school is that the world doesn’t take it as seriously the prestige level of a trade degree as compared to a four-year degree.”
The starting salary may be competitive but down the line, it can cap your growth by lacking a bachelor’s degree when you try to move up to a managerial position.
The total cost for attending a state school this year was ninety-five hundred dollars a year versus the eight-month certified technician program here sixteen thousand dollars total.
And a median pay of 37 thousand dollars that’s not quite as much as the median salary out of a state school forty-two thousand dollars.
But some vacation programs like dental hygienists can make seventy-one thousand dollars with the right certifications.
