What you should expect after HVAC shchool and how the industry is changing from what it used to be.
What to expect after HVAC trade school
In this video, an HVAC professional describes what you should expect after you get out of HVAC school and how the HVAC business model has changed.
After you get out of school now most dealers and professionals are going to ask you how much money you want to make. Because now it’s all about making money by selling different packages and products to the customer.
It’s not about the profession or knowledge and experience anymore and it’s not about getting referrals and having a credible business. It’s about building the paycheck and people have lost sight of providing a good service. Instead of repairing a unit, people are now being told to sell the customer a whole new unit.
“A real technician is someone who tries to fix the problem. They are going to try to figure it out”
He says real technicians don’t just want to be parts changers and salesmen, they want to fix problems because they have professional skills. A real technician should have a manometer, they should know how much feet per minute should be coming out of the supply vents, you should know how to calculate CFM on the return grill.
“You need to think about what you need to be learning and how to get further along in your career”
What leads you to success is building your knowledge and understanding of the industry, not just learning how to be a salesmen that sells products to people who don’t need them. Make sure you get a job with a company that cares about you learning more!
